Economic structure

French economic performance spans domestic services, manufacturing and public activity. A national total can obscure differences in demand, productivity and cost exposure among them. Research examines the relationship between service activity and industrial capacity rather than assuming that a shift in sector shares identifies a loss or gain in productive performance.

Policy and financial setting

Fiscal adjustment affects the economy through the composition and timing of expenditure and revenue changes. A reduction in an allocation is different from a change in service delivery or investment. France’s monetary environment is shared with the euro area; national credit, household and public-finance conditions shape its transmission.

Indicators and interpretation

Research dimension Measure Interpretation
Production Value added by industry Compare real activity with the sector-specific price measure.
Public finance General-government accounts and expenditure functions Retain the institutional boundary and accounting basis.
Innovation Business research expenditure and tax support Distinguish eligible spending, additional research and measured outcomes.

Assessment: the 2025 annual accounts

INSEE’s May 29, 2026 annual release records French real GDP growth of 0.8 percent in 2025 on a basis without working-day adjustment. Consumption, investment and production did not move uniformly. The services and industry study examines the connections among expenditure and production, while the fiscal study considers adjustment through the composition of public spending.
