Corrections

Accurate research requires a clear route for identifying and correcting errors. Documented observations about published analysis may be sent to corrections@aesenate.org.

Identify the issue

Provide the publication title and address, the affected passage, table or calculation, and the proposed correction. Where the issue concerns a source, include the official document, table or provision and the relevant period or edition.

Send the material to corrections@aesenate.org. A concise explanation of how the issue affects the argument helps establish its significance.

Scope of review

A factual error, computational mistake, incorrect policy-status statement or source misattribution can require a correction. A reasoned disagreement about assumptions or interpretation may call for clarification or further analysis. The review considers the evidence and the effect on the published conclusion.

New source data are assessed as a revision or update to the underlying record. Their later publication does not, by itself, establish an error in a study with an earlier information cutoff.

Treatment of material changes

A material correction should identify the statement or exhibit affected and explain whether the conclusion changes. Where the analysis requires substantial revision, the revised text should remain identifiable. Typographical and presentational changes can be made without treating them as a new empirical result.

Research standards and the distinction between observation, inference and illustration are set out in Research and editorial methods.
